This Week's word...BEGINNINGS.

This week's word.....BEGINNINGS.

It was actually a pretty insightful week!

It began with me wondering how I can best make my class not only a center for learning, but a place where students experience science and build memories that last a lifetime. I thought it was going going to be fairly average, with lots of opportunity still for students to expand their minds as per usual.

Little did I know how the week would unfold.

A trip to the Telus World of Science on Monday withe @beebuzzers, @dwreck and our grade 9 class started it off with a bang! We watched HUBBLE on IMAX, and it was so good...it was COSMIC. We threw in a digital scavenger hunt for the kids and it turned out to be a VERY cool afternoon!

Tuesday was spent with the grade 7's as they were collaborating on a Google Doc in preparation for Friday's "Hands On" and "Minds On" activity that will prepare them for creating their Cardboard Boats in a few weeks! It has been a lot of research, but it will pay off at the end of the month.

The grade 8's have been working on their Circulatory System Passports....a way for students o become more independent in thier studies and mix art and science in their Discovery Books. We also spent Tuesday creating a large body model in class and demonstrated how a blood cell travels around the body! All of this weeks work will culminate with a Pig's Heart Dissection on Friday!

Behold.....my attempt an the inner workings of a blood vessel!

The grade 9's spent the week filming their pace videos that will be uploaded to the class website first and then onto YouTube! I had a goal of having kids beginning to create content for the web!

Finally, our Bamfield club dissected a seastar and have a field trip to Big Al's Aquarium next week! We are gearing up for a trip in two years to take kids to Bamfield! EXCITING! We also found out that the Vancouver Aquarium will be arriving on A. Blair McPherson's doorstep in May! Details to come on this awesome opportunity!

Busy week to say the least....next week can't get better...can it? I can't wait for next week to begin.

Beginnings. That's the word.
